David Thulstrup is an award-winning architect and designer known for his “modern simplicity” style, which blends his Scandinavian heritage with contemporary design. He founded his studio in Copenhagen in 2009 after several years working in Paris and New York for design icons Jean Nouvel and Peter Marino. Central to his philosophy are the questions “who is it for” and “how will it be used,” guiding him to create timeless projects that are grounded in materiality and context to establish a strong sense of place. His notable work includes the acclaimed Noma restaurant in Copenhagen and Ikoyi in London, as well as collaborations with private clients to realize their dream homes. With Master’s degrees in both Architecture and Interior Architecture, David’s expertise has earned him multiple awards from Architectural Digest, Wallpaper Magazine, Dezeen, and Monocle. In 2023, Phaidon Press published his first design monograph; David Thulstrup A Sense of Place.
Leading his team of devoted architects and designers at his Copenhagen studio, David emphasizes the importance of developing his team’s creative capabilities over growth in size, ensuring each project reflects a deep understanding of how spaces are used and experienced.
