Interior architecture
The project for the interior architecture of Nouvelles Galeries in Annecy is a thoughtful fusion of local identity, natural beauty, and functional design. We analyzed the surrounding landscape of Annecy, its picturesque city, majestic mountains, and serene lake, ensuring that these elements informed every aspect of the design. Our goal was to create a seamless new interior that not only respected the existing architecture but also anchored a locality by integrating local materiality as a first priority. This approach ensures that the space resonates with the unique character of Annecy, often referred to as the Pearl of French Alps.
The design aims to craft a journey for visitors that highlights the region’s beauty through the use of natural elements. By incorporating timeless materials such as pine wood and Bleu de Savoie marble, we foster a sense of place that mirrors the adjoining exterior, encouraging visitors to gather, relax, and feel at home in the store. Our ambition extends to creating holistic experiences, wherein every architectural intervention speaks the same language, from the choice of materials to the rhythm introduced by the building’s vertical volumes.
To enhance the iconic elements of the original Galeries Lafayette building from the 1960s, we employed a dynamic interplay between concrete and vertical forms. This not only respects the historic essence but also harmonizes with contemporary architectural elements throughout the city. Ultimately, the design serves to bridge the past and the future, creating an inviting space that caters to the diverse needs of both local consumers and visitors.
