Islands Brygge House
Copenhagen, Denmark
Transformation
Architectural design and interior
Islands Brygge House represents a transformation of a former industrial garage in Copenhagen into a contemporary two-story residence and photography studio. This remodeling successfully merges industrial and modern design elements, creating a unique aesthetic. The exterior facade features distinctive vertical wood cladding that enhances its visual appeal and complements the surrounding environment. Inside, the space is energized by glass atrium allowing natural light to cascade from a rooftop garden down to the ground floor. This design choice not only brightens the interior but also establishes a strong connection with the outdoor environment, making Islands Brygge House a standout example of adaptive reuse in architecture.
The Islands Brygge house marked my first complete transformation of an old garage in Copenhagen into a residential space. A key focus of the design was enhancing natural light, which was a crucial aspect for my client and will surely appeal to future owners as well.

This central atrium not only enhances the sense of spaciousness but also introduces a serene, green atmosphere, complete with a black alder tree and Scandinavian woodland plants. Inside, raw materials such as concrete and steel intermingle with bespoke furniture, including a striking dining table and a unique brass chandelier that reflects light throughout.
