Architectural design and interior
The Smidstrup house is expertly designed to blend into its coastal landscape, enveloped by protective pine trees that line the coastline. The architectural concept emphasizes substantial materials, primarily concrete and pine, highlighting the importance of tactile experiences for the client. Its multi-level structure is meticulously crafted to maximize natural light and offer expansive views of the surrounding area. The layout thoughtfully arranges sleeping and guest areas among the trees, fostering a deep connection with nature. The choice of materials, including various shades of granite in the kitchen and bathrooms, paired with light pine planks, creates a warm and inviting ambiance. The exterior features weathered pine cladding, which not only harmonizes with the environment but also contributes to a durable design that can withstand the test of time. The plot itself slopes down towards the sea, presenting a challenging landscape that is effectively addressed by a design comprising three interconnected sections, linked by long corridors. The upper portion of the house provides stunning views of the sea and the treetops, while the lower section closest to the shore is nestled within a small pinewood (pineta) where the bedrooms are located. Overall, this project aims to create a harmonious home that seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings, balancing function and form while celebrating the beauty of the coastal environment.
The sloping path down to the sea and the connected rooms joined by hallways make you feel like you’re taking a walk in nature, even while you’re inside the house.
