Vester Voldgade Apartment
Copenhagen, Denmark
Interior architecture
A Danish couple embarked on a residential transformation of their top-floor apartment in central Copenhagen. The primary objective was to maximize natural light and enhance the apartment’s volume through radical architectural interventions, which included removing ceilings and opening the roof. By extending the original arched windows and adding new ones in the roofline, the design respects the building and facilitate an inflow of daylight, resulting in a bright double-height living area crowned with old exposed rafters.
By prioritizing the client’s desire for more natural light, we designed a timeless structure that optimally facilitates this goal, resulting in a modern and enduring design.

The client’s attention to detail and materials was paramount; natural materials like wood, stone, and metal were thoughtfully incorporated to enhance the elegance and spaciousness of the interiors. Custom-built features, including a striking spiral staircase and bespoke furniture, ensured a unique functionality while contributing to the refined aesthetic. The living space, designed to be airy and inviting, flows seamlessly into an open kitchen and dining area, further enhanced by bi-folding glass doors leading to a terrace.
