Noma Restaurant is the interior design of the restaurant’s home on Refshaleøen in Copenhagen, set within a series of farm like buildings designed by BIG. The work was shaped around a clear sense of place, with interiors that reflect the restaurant’s position, history and daily rituals.

David Thulstrup approached the restaurant as a home rather than a conventional dining room. It is liveable, direct and made to support cooking, serving, gathering and eating. Oak, Douglas fir, custom brick, river stone terrazzo, handmade furniture, lighting, art and found pieces form a complete interior language, where each room carries its own texture, weight and rhythm.

"The end result is more than I expected. Even though it’s a brand new space, it feels like it has been there for a while. It immediately settles you as you enter, yet it is unfamiliar once you start looking around"

Rene Redzepi

The lounge refers to the Danish house vernacular of the 1970s, where brick, timber and low proportions shaped rooms for everyday life. Custom cream brick continues across floor and walls, giving the space warmth, weight and a direct material connection to Danish domestic architecture.
